Mr. Furuya began studying American Kenpo in 1964 at the Pasedena studio training with the likes of Tom Kelley and Grandmaster Richard "Huk" Planas. Through years of training he became the senior black belt at the Pasadena school acheiving the rank of 6th degreee black belt.
With the Pasadena school now gone, Mr. Furuya continues to preserve the the foundation of American Kenpo that was passed to him by Senior Grandmaster Parker at his Glendora, California studio.
Since the passing of Mr. Parker, Mr. Furuya has been awarded the ranks of 7th through 10th degree black belt by a board of Kenpo seniors comprised of Roger Meadows, Mike Pick and Grandmaster Frank Trejo.
